Influential Professional Designer

For my influential professional designer, I have chosen the Nebraska Football graphics department. Nebraska has one of the most storied college football teams in the nation. Over their 118 years of existence, Nebraska holds claim to 5 national titles, as well as one of the most loyal fan bases in college football, having sold out every home game since 1962. Because of this rich history, Nebraska’s graphics department puts great care into each graphic to make sure it is something the school will be proud of.

This graphic was made to celebrate national Nebraska day. It is a very nicely made collage of Nebraska players from the past put into a current helmet, to represent the heritage that the current players uphold in their play. It also includes a visor reflection of a corn farmer, as corn is the main crop of Nebraska.

This graphic was posted to the Twitter on the day before spring practice started with the caption “Spring Ball Tomorrow.” It is a collage of a bunch of current players during past practices or games. I really like the coloring that they have on this, as the red really pops and the white is super crisp. I also like the stylistic cutouts, how none of them are perfect, it adds good texture to the photo.

This studio appeals to me because it falls pretty nicely into what I want to do when I get older. I would love to work for the social media of a football team and get to create content like the examples above. I think Nebraska in particular is a shining example of what good attention to detail when it comes to making graphics can do for your engagement. They are constantly putting out top notch graphics and collages such as the ones above. They do a wide variety of graphics, such as infographics, collages, gameday graphics, and so forth. If I were to work at a studio like this one, I think it would be very rewarding, as you get to see in front of you the people that are engaging with your material. That’s what makes social media rewarding. While I chose Nebraska for this assignment, I would say that any football program that wanted to hire me I would be down to go to. I just think Nebraska is the shining example in D-1 when it comes to graphics.
